As you know, part of my “31 Things To Do in March” was to take a trip to NYC and so that’s exactly what we did this weekend! (more on that fun trip later). But, while driving up there on Saturday, the idea of how I wanted to be generous popped into my head.
Upon arrival, I walked to the Starbuck’s across the street from my hotel and purchased a $100.00 gift card and asked the cashier to use it to by drinks for all the people that came in after me up to $100.00.
Now, while I have no idea what happened after I left, I have to tell you I walked around the corner and smiled. ( and not just because I was headed to Saks) I smiled because I felt happy and generous and felt that if even one person was delighted by my gesture then it was a great investment.
It felt so good I decided to do a few more nice things. I left a nice tip for the woman who cleaned my room (not sure the proper term here) and she thanked me and I told her it was my pleasure and that she had done a good job. (The room was really clean and when I had seen her in the hall earlier she had made an impression on me because she was so pleasant and welcoming). I left a generous tip for the bartender at my favorite restaurant. Same thing, she is such a pleasure to be around and a delightful warm person. I also bought some Girl Scout cookies from the girls by Safeway. I asked if they could donate them on my behalf.
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
Jalal ad-Din Rumi
I am not sure what’s next but I am sure I will think of something!
