Be Generous Today

As you know, I have sold a thing or two on Craig’s List and I have had nothing but positive experiences up until this week. I received an email from a woman who apparently didn’t like a price I had listed on a product that I had posted a few times so she felt the need to send me an email sharing her feelings. And, it made me really mad. Mad because it is a reflection of our society today.  A society where people feel the need to maliciously attack other people for no reason. People they have never met before.  If she didn’t like my item and pricing, then don’t buy it. Yet she felt the need to send me a note and I think this behavior is unacceptable.

Why do people think they have the right to say whatever they want to other people with no penalty? The product I might add was a  Pottery Barn Kids product which led me to believe she has children. Which then made me also feel sad to think that she is raising children to be like her – malicious and proactively aggressive.

So, here’s the thing. I can not change this woman’s behavior I can only control my reaction. By the way, I did write her back.  I know that is a waste of my time but I was really angry.  Angry that these are the type of people in my community.

So, I had a good idea to share with you – only for your consideration. Today, do something nice for someone and I will too.  Hold the door open for a stranger, buy their coffee, pay their toll, donate to a non-profit, help someone in need, let someone cut in front of you during traffic tonight.   Those are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I am sure when the opportunity is presented to you today, it will be obvious.

It seems to me this is the best way to combat someone like that woman. Prove that for every person like her, there are many more that are good citizens who will go out of there way to make someone’s day better.

Thank you!
